If you were a direct student of Jaime Escalante, you can be assigned the Escalante number of 1. Since I was taught by Jaime Escalante at East Los Angeles College in the late 80's, I have an Escalante number =1.

 

     All my students will have an Escalante number =2 as you were indirectly taught by Jaime Escalante. And, when your students are taught, they will have an Escalante Number=3 and so on.
